Falls from scaffolds, ladders and roof edges remain among the most common causes of serious injury on South African sites, and confined spaces add the hazard of an atmosphere that can kill within seconds. What you will be able to do

  • Distinguish the fall protection duties placed on employers from those of the fall protection plan competent person under the Construction Regulations 2014.
  • Select and inspect fall arrest equipment, lanyards, anchor points and access platforms before each use.
  • Draw up a fall protection plan for a specific structure and task.
  • Classify a confined space and apply gas testing, ventilation and entry permit controls.
  • Organise a rescue capability so that a suspended or collapsed worker is reached in time.
  • Investigate near misses at height and in confined spaces and close the gaps found.
