What you will be able to do

  • Recognise the chemical, physical and biological stressors present in your own workplace.
  • Explain how exposure limits are derived and what an eight hour weighted average actually represents.
  • Plan a monitoring survey covering similar exposure groups, sampling periods and equipment.
  • Interpret a hygiene survey report and challenge conclusions that the data does not support.
  • Select controls in order of effectiveness, treating respiratory protection as the last resort.
  • Link monitoring results to medical surveillance so that findings reach the occupational health practitioner.
