Occupational Dermatitis and Skin Exposure Prevention

Cleaners, healthcare workers, hairdressers, mechanics and food handlers across the region develop painful and sometimes career ending skin disease from wet work and contact with chemicals, yet the skin is the forgotten route of exposure. This course brings skin protection into the occupational health programme, covering hazard identification, glove selection and skin care regimes. Participants learn to recognise early damage and act before it becomes chronic.

What you will be able to do

  • Explain how the skin is damaged by wet work, irritants and sensitisers.
  • Identify tasks and substances that cause occupational skin disease.
  • Select and use gloves that match the chemical and the task.
  • Establish a skin care regime of protection, cleansing and restoration.
