Minute Taking and Meeting Records

A committee resolution is challenged six months later and the only record is a set of notes nobody can follow. Minute takers learn to capture decisions accurately under pressure, distinguish discussion from resolution, and produce a record that holds up when it is audited or read by someone who was not in the room.

What you will be able to do

  • Prepare an agenda and attendance record that makes the minute easier to write.
  • Capture decisions, mandates and action items while a discussion is still running.
  • Distinguish between resolution minutes, action minutes and narrative minutes.
  • Summarise a heated or wandering debate without taking a side.
  • Record declarations of interest, apologies and quorum in a defensible way.
  • Circulate, correct and archive minutes so the approved version is never in doubt.
