Structural Steelwork Fabrication and Erection Supervision

Structural steel moves fast on site and small errors in fabrication or bolting can carry serious consequences. This course covers the supervision of steel from shop fabrication through delivery, lifting and connection on South African projects. Participants learn how to check quality, sequence erection safely and manage the interface between the steelwork contractor and the main works.

What you will be able to do

  • Interpret steel fabrication and connection drawings on site.
  • Check fabrication tolerances, welds and surface protection on delivery.
  • Plan a safe erection sequence and lifting approach.
  • Supervise bolting, welding and connection quality during erection.
  • Manage temporary stability and bracing until the frame is complete.
  • Coordinate steel erectors with concrete, cladding and services trades.
